man oh man, every time I've sat down to write a post in the last 48 hours I've been so burnt out from how busy my weekend unexpectedly was, lol. usually I'm 110% boring & have nothing to talk about because my household is still VERY COVID-conscious so we don't do things like go out very often. I end up being much more oF a homebody than I was to begin with which is somehow saying something.
but this weekend, JEEZE.
friday we were meant to clean the apartment after my roommate went shopping, but my wife had her final ADHD screening and we ended up ... nnnnot doing that, lol. she works full time & literally has been walking in and doing these online doctor's appointments, which is pretty draining for her. this time, the doctor even 100% gave her the diagnosis, too, so that was a big weight off her shoulders & so we all spent friday night just sort've chillin.
my wife's elderly cat has been having stomach issues and spit up some blood Saturday morning - which, he's okay, it's apparently common for kitty IBS, but obviously that set a hell of a tone for the rest of the day, lol. we did end up cleaning the house after roommate made breakfast/muffins, and then wife went out for new steroids for the cat, and she and I spent the rest of the day just crafting together. I finished the body of her "Psycho sweater" (a sweater based on the black turtleneck Anthony Perkins wears in the 1960's PSYCHO movie), so now it's off to sleeve island for me. (which I told wife was a thing, and she was flabbergasted to find out "sleeve island" as parlance is a common thing in knitting circles, lmao. she was like, "ARE YOU DOING A BIT RIGHT NOW" and I had to show her people talking about sleeve island on the internet.)
today, we were supposed to chill and write, with her doing some last minute chores before the start of the week and the start of her school for the year, but LOL NOPE instead we went out to a book sale that one of the local libraries put on. it was 10$ to go in and get a paper bag and just fill it with anything you could find. we weren't the only people masked in there which was nice, and it wasn't TOO busy, but it was still pretty stressful. big groups of people like that still make me super fuckin nervous. >< I managed to get three Jasper Fforde's in the THURSDAY NEXT series, which I've never read (and somehow got the first two books! yo!!!), two knitting books including one INCREDIBLE old book of blankets from Vanna White, a Max Gladstone, Sarah Waters' THE LITTLE STRANGER, Anne Rice's crazy-ass Jesus book & a few random things that grabbed my fancy. wife netted a ton of DVDs too, including one very fancy version of MOULIN ROUGE, which she was excited about. we've been really pushing for physical media between the two of us lately.
in the in-between times I've been playing a lot a lot a LOT of BOOK OF HOURS, a card game about being an occult librarian in 1930s England, which has 100% captivated me for days on end now. I'm starting to really get the hang of it but it's funny how many systems there are to juggle & my wife keeps laughing at me for having a huge series of spreadsheets open on another screen while I play. it's really neat though, and has been so so cozy to curl up with a cup of tea and faff about with my little digital books in the gorgeous digital dollhouse that is Hush House.
in other video game news, REVERSE 1999 just had a huge update that I've barely been able to touch, so hopefully I can get a bit with that this week. Tokyo Game Show is imminent so I'm really hoping both PROFESSOR LAYTON and RESIDENT EVIL get some updates; I know FANTASY LIFE is going to get some new info for the new game in that series this week at least, and that's gonna have to get me through the impending blood draw at the end of the week, bleh. at any minute remedy is going to announce the drop date for LAKE HOUSE, the ALAN WAKE 2 dlc still coming. at the very latest, like, October 18th? maybe? if we're lucky? (and the collector's physical version won't be here until December, WHINE, but at least it's coming.)
it's also going to be way, way too hot for the 24th of goddamn September on tuesday - almost 90 Fahrenheit? why? why? why? (I know why, but like, why,)
